NISH MOTORSPORTS 2009 RACING SEASON

Nish Motorsports and the Royal Purple Streamliner made a fast run at the Bonneville Salt Flats SCTA/BNI Sanctioned Speedweek Event on Wednesday, August 12th, 2009. The Nish Motorsports Team was running on its own record of 377.715 mph set during Speedweek of 2007. A speed of 385.262 mph was timed through the measured mile with an exit speed of 394.537—fast enough to qualify for a return run the following morning.

The morning air and salt conditions were very good for the return run and Nish Motorsports was in high hopes of a 400 mph timing slip. The Streamliner would need to run a 325 mph speed between the 2 and 2 1/4 mile in order to obtain a measured mile speed in excess of 400 mph. Unfortunately, a lower end failure in the engine prevented the car from running past the 2 mile. The ProLogger Data Acquisition information confirmed that the Streamliner was well on its way to the 400 mph run with a 2 mile speed of 317 mph. Car owner, Terry Nish said, “that was the run we were looking for and the streamliner was definitely on a mission.” Nish Motorsports will re-group at race shop headquarters located in Salt Lake City, Utah to assess the damage to the engine.

The focus of the Nish Motorsports Racing Team in the 2009 Racing Season will be to break the Legendary F.I.A. World Record of 409.277 mph that was set in 1965 by the Summers Brothers. That 1965 record was set using a 596 C.I. Klein BB, Naturally Aspirated Chevy Engine. The Streamliner is using an all Aluminum 720 Cubic Inch Big Block Chevrolet Engine that runs on Alcohol Only. “The Big engine should be capable of building 1600 Horse Power on straight Alcohol. This should give us the reliability that we have been lacking to achieve our goal”, said car owner Terry Nish.
